For the first 4 hours:
- Stay upright (no lying flat).
- Avoid touching, rubbing, or massaging the injected areas.
- Avoid strenuous exercise and heat exposure such as saunas or hot yoga
For the first 24 hours:
- Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications or supplements (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, fish oil, vitamin E) unless prescribed by your physician.
- Skip facials, laser skin treatment, and dental work near the injection sites.
- Choose soft foods; avoid excessive chewing such as gum, jerky, or nuts to minimize diffusion of Botox from treated areas.
What to expect
- Mild redness, swelling, or small bumps at injection sites which usually resolves within a few hours.
- Bruising can occur (rarely) and may take several days to fade.
- Headache or a feeling of tightness can occur and typically subsides in 1-3 days
- Results begin in 3-7 days, with full effect at about 10-14 days. Duration is typically 3-4 months.
Pain Relief
- Acetaminophen (Tylenol) may be used as directed if needed.
- Avoid NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen) within 24 hours if possible to reduce bruising, unless advised otherwise by your physician.
Jaw activity guidance
- Limit heavy clenching, chewing for the first day. Resume normal diet as is comfortable after 24 hours.
- If you use a night guard, continue wearing it as directed by your dentist.
